U.S. Commerce Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement

NEW YORK, NY, December 9, 2011 — Universal Vacations Naples has been
selected for the 2011 Best of Naples Award in the Property Management category
by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).

The USCA “Best of Local Business” Award Program recognizes
outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA
identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing
success in their local community and business category. These are local
companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to
their customers and community.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners
in each category. The 2011 USCA Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity.
Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the
USCA and data provided by third parties.

Christmastime has landed in Fort Myers in all its holly, jolly glory.

December 15th, 2011 |

There are biggies such as the annual Holiday House in downtown Fort Myers

Drivers line up to see the animatronic Santa Claus waving from Gene Baggett’s front yard. Surrounding the rosy-cheeked elf, snow-white holiday lights shimmer on the lawn and multi-colored lights glow on the roof and walls.
Baggett’s cast of holiday lawn characters includes reindeer, polar bears and an entire inflatable rock band (with a penguin drummer, a reindeer singer and Santa on guitar).
And it’s not even the biggest holiday-lights display on the block.
“I’ve got 15,000 lights,” says Baggett, 53, of 920 S.W. Fourth Ave. “My neighbor has 125,000. I’m not even close.”
Just a few houses down the street, Neil Monkman’s house takes Christmas to a whole other level: Two giant, lighted Christmas trees; countless smaller trees; twinkling reindeer grazing on the lawn; and a reindeer jazz band on the roof (with Rudolph rat-tat-tatting on the drums).
The 125,710 holiday lights — Monkman tracks them with a computer spreadsheet — blink, sweep and strobe to synchronized jazz by Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller.
It’s certainly a beautiful sight, says visitor Frank Lewis.
“This is fabulous!” says Lewis, 62, of Newport, who got out of his car to donate cash for the Monkman family’s Christmas for Kids charity. “A lot of work went into this, obviously.”
Monkman and Baggett aren’t alone in their eye-popping holiday spirit, of course. Impressive light displays have popped up all over Southwest Florida this month. Continue reading “Christmastime has landed in Fort Myers in all its holly, jolly glory.” »
