Zoomers about to open in Fort Myers

August 29th, 2011 |

"We're going bring it exactly to where the original plans intended it to be," said project manager Alan Fluke

A Fort Myers family has purchased the park known as Zoomers, which has been silent and untouched for more than four years.

The new owners plan to put a significant amount of money into the property. The park is more than 90-percent complete, but needs some rehab.

“We’re going bring it exactly to where the original plans intended it to be,” said project manager Alan Fluke.

The property was purchased in a federal foreclosed property auction in June for $1.3 million.

That’s a fraction of what was put into this before construction ended.

Its former owner ran out of money and an Immokalee based bank took it over before shutting down and handing it off to the FDIC.

“It’s taken a couple steps backwards so we’ve gotta bring everything back to life. We need new paint everywhere. We have to fix that go kart track,” Fluke said.

He says because the park is 95-percent complete, not much needs to go into getting it up and running. In fact, the biggest problem is clearing out some of the vegetation.

“Once we get everything torn down and new plants it will look different in a short period of time,” Fluke said.

The park is set to open in early 2012.

There is still no word on how many employees the owners will hire when it is up and running. But they say they hope to have those numbers when they hold a job fair in the beginning of next year.
